Focus group with youth workers in Amsterdam

Globalization has widened the gap between rich and poor, and recent challenges such as climate change, pandemics, and high inflation have only made this worse. Inequality is at a historic high, leading to poverty, poor health, and limited educational opportunities. Social inclusion is more important than ever to create a society where everyone, regardless of their background, has access to the necessary resources.

Youth Work – Everyone is Different

Every individual brings unique qualities, challenges, and perspectives. That’s why different organizations each have their own approach to youth work. For example:

  • Dock emphasizes a calming and reassuring strategy.
  • Combiwel adopts a more structured and disciplined approach.
  • Vooruit works with part-time youth workers to engage young people within their communities.
  • Academy of the City deploys young professionals to promote leadership and hands-on experience.

In addition to these approaches, STAR 2.0 uses street art as a creative tool to empower young people and help them develop essential life skills such as self-expression, collaboration, and project management. This unique approach ensures that all young people, regardless of their background, have the opportunity to thrive in a society where everyone is, indeed, different.

Focus Group

As part of the STAR 2.0 curriculum, we are developing an online learning environment with ten modules for youth workers. To ensure these modules align perfectly with their needs, we gathered feedback last Monday through a focus group session with youth workers.
During this session, SAMA collected valuable insights on lesson content, structure, organization, and delivery methods. The group consisted of youth workers from Vooruit and Combiwel, who generously set aside their afternoon for this session.

After an intense 1.5-hour session of reviewing modules and gathering feedback on post-it notes, we wrapped up with a delicious lunch!

Now, we’re hard at work finalising the lesson modules—more updates coming soon!
